A Very Yankee Christmas

A Very Yankee Christmas

One brand that is synonymous with Christmas for most people, me definitely included, is Yankee Candle. They always have the most divine scents that fill your house with that comforting, festive smell whether it be the sumptuously sweet Snowflake Cookies (a personal favourite), the spicy warm notes of Cinnamon Stick or the fresh pine fragrance of Christmas Garland. Their advent calendars are an absolute must in my house – I have had one for the last two years but this time around, having managed to get my mitts on two beauty versions I thought it would be getting possibly a little excessive. So I bought it for my mum. Win-win situation really, as she gets a calendar and I get to enjoy the scent of Yankee wafting through the home.

Winter Woolies

Love them or loathe them there is no escaping the Christmas jumper at this time of year. Personally, I’m all over them from December 1st and they are one of my favourite festive things (which you can see more of in yesterday’s post). You can go cheesy or classy, brash or beautiful but what ever you choose make sure you have at least one in your winter wardrobe! I absolutely love the feeling of pulling out a cosy sweater and snuggling up preferably next to a roaring fire with a hot chocolate/mulled wine/snowball/any festive drink I can get my hands on. I have managed to pass on my passion for Christmas knits to my three year old daughter who also has a variety of them. Today I’ll be giving you a glimpse of my most prized possession from my winter warmers, pulling some silly poses whilst dancing around to Mariah and sharing a few pieces that have caught my eye on the high street this year.

RUSH Hair Nottingham

Going For The Chop At Rush Hair

For as long as I can remember, I’ve gone through a cycle with my hair. I would grow it long and love it…for a while. And then all the time dedicated to washing, drying and styling would start to really get on my nerves. If you haven’t already read about my hair woes, I’ll cut a long story short and tell you that it is long, thick and generally unmanageable if left to its own devices. When it gets to this stage I usually go all out and chop the lot off (well, to around the shoulder which is a lot of length to take from my hair). I’d had the itch to go short for a while now, but having had long locks for over two years made the fear oh so real. Then, coincidently, an invite to the opening of a brand new branch of the fabulous RUSH hair salons landed in my inbox. The Nottingham Salon is the 83rd location to join the empire and I’d heard great things about their expertise. Unfortunately I couldn’t make the event, but was generously offered a free cut and finish* anyway. I felt like the universe was giving me a great old kick up the backside to make the move.

Beauty Outlet at Lakeside

Bag A Beauty Bargain At Lakeside

When I think of beauty outlets in retail parks I never hold out much hope. In all honesty, I’ve had pretty poor experiences with them. While they are amazing for high street brands such as Rimmel, Bourjois and W7, I have to hold my hands up and say I’m a bit of a beauty snob. I love me a bit of luxury so give me my Chanel, Charlotte Tilbury and Chantecaille. When I was invited along to Lakeside Village in Doncaster to have a nosey around their Beauty Outlet I went with drug store in mind. Oh, how wrong I was.

Discovering Kiko Milano

Discovering Kiko Milano

Let me introduce you to Kiko Milano. A brand priced like the high street but with a little bit of a luxury feel. You’ve most probably heard of Kiko, they have shops popping up left, right and centre at the moment. I was recently invited along to the opening of the Sheffield store, and saw it as the perfect opportunity to explore the brand a bit more. Prior to this, I owned a few bits and pieces by them but had never really had a good old swatching session and nosey around their collections. Well, needless to say I was blown away. Who knew they do skin care (and do it bloody well), or that they release a new collection every four months? Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the world of Kiko…

The Creme De La Creme Of Christmas Advent Calendars

The Creme De La Creme Of Christmas Calendars

Now that Halloween and Bonfire Night are done and dusted, I’m in full on festive mode. I feel like I’ve been waiting for this moment ever since I attended the Lush Christmas event earlier this year, so bring on the Bublé and Bucks Fizz. One part of Christmas that I really get into is always advent – I have a DIY calendar for my daughter which I always go to town on, and recent years have seen a massive rise in the beauty calendar.  This time round, there’s pretty much everything and anything you could wish for in calendar form…candles, accessories and perfume. Advent isn’t just for the kiddies nowadays ladies! So today I’m bringing you the creme de la creme of calendars but a word of warning-this post does contain spoilers! I’m not revealing all as I know most people will still want some surprises but thought I’d give you just enough to get a flavour for each one. If you spot any you like, be sure to get your mitts on them soon because these beauts sell like hot cakes!

MAC Lipstick

Vamp Up Your Lips This Autumn With MAC

Every make up junkie worth her salt has a little stash of MAC, and for most of us the love affair begins with one product in particular. Browsing the lipstick counter in a MAC store is like being a kid in a sweet shop – so many shades, textures and finishes it really is one of life’s tough decisions when it comes to which one(s…who am I kidding?) to throw into your basket. From Patisserie to Please Me, Russian Red to Ravishing or Taupe to Twig; MAC has a hue for every occasion. I have my fair share of their lipsticks, and there are three in particular which just encapsulate everything good about Autumn for me. Although I love a bright pink or coral in the summer months, there’s something about this time of year which makes me rock a bold lip any chance I get. So if you see me anytime soon chances are I’ll be wearing one of these beauties.

Meadowhall Student Evening

Shopping Student Style at Meadowhall

I like to shop. Correction, I love to shop. I’m guessing you love to shop too. Rain or shine, happy or sad, browsing or splurging; there’s really nothing quite like a bit of retail therapy. Here in Sheffield we have a little old place called Meadowhall, which is basically my church. It’s where I go to worship at the alters of MAC, Reiss and Urban Outfitters. Here you’ll find every single store I love under one pretty, glass domed roof (bar Space NK) as well as a whole host of fabulous restaurants and watering holes. Need a Pumpkin Spice Latte to refuel? Or a glass of champagne to celebrate that last bargain you scored? Meadowhall have your back. When I was invited along to the Student evening a couple of weeks ago I sent my RSVP so quick I swear smoke was coming off the keyboard! I know I’m not a student any more…but I have been and I know that there’s a fair few students reading my blog so you know what, why not? Meadowhall was open to the general public that evening too, but if you were attending the event you got a wrist band that entitled you to some jaw dropping discounts and there were freebies. Lots of them. Enough rambling now, let’s get down to business.

Kettle Black Sheffield

Feeling Fancy Courtesy Of Kettle Black

I’m not going to lie, more often than not you will find me in my pyjamas with a cup of tea, blogging away in the evening. I’m a bit of a homebody like that. When I do go out with my girlies though, I like nothing more than a glass or two of bubbly and a few fancy cocktails. So, when an invitation to a cocktail masterclass at one of the swankiest new bars in Sheffield popped up in my inbox, how could I refuse? Bellini’s and blogger babes – what more could a gal ask for on a Thursday Night?
